Letcher County Woman Killed in a Residential Fire

(Hazard, KY) -- A 66 year old Letcher County woman has died as the result of a residential fire. The fire was reported by a neighbor at 7:07 AM and happened at 92 Down Hill Drive in the Mayking Community of Letcher County. The Mayking Volunteer Fire Dept was dispatched to the scene and arrived within minutes of notification of the fire. The body of 66 year old Betty Fields was located in a bedroom of the residence by members of Mayking and Neon Fire Department who also responded to offer mutual aide. Letcher County Coroner Marty Baker responded to the scene and pronounced the victim deceased at 7:47 AM. Trooper Adam Hall, Detective Randy Combs, Kentucky State Police Post 13 Arson Investigator Randy Gabbard along with Deputy State Fire Marshalls Robert Keith and Dave Broadrick all responded to the scene and assisted in the investigation. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, however; no foul play is suspected. Detective Randy Combs and Kentucky State Police Arson Investigator Randy Gabbard are investigating.
