Shelby County Pursuit Ends in Jefferson County

(Frankfort, KY.) -- The Shelby County Dispatch received several calls from concerned citizens about a yellow taxicab operating in a reckless manner by a suspected intoxicated driver. The Shelby County Dispatch advised law enforcement in the area of the complaint. A third complaint involving the reckless yellow taxicab was dispatched by the Franklin County Dispatch. They gave a possible location of I-64 westbound in Franklin County.

Post 12 Trooper and a Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer respond to the complaint to locate the suspected drunk driver. At 4:53 pm a CVE Officer located the yellow taxicab on I-64 at the 36 mile marker and observed the reckless taxicab. The Officer attempted to stop the reckless taxicab by activating his emergency equipment. The operator of the yellow taxicab refused to stop and began eluding. Several Troopers from the Frankfort Post joined the pursuit to stop the fleeing taxicab. The eluding taxicab continued west on I-64 through Shelby County into Jefferson County refusing to stop. During the pursuit the fleeing taxicab operator continued speeding at a high rate, making erratic lane changes and refusing to stop for law enforcement.

The eluding vehicle was approaching heavy traffic and continued showing no signs of complying. At the 17 mile marker on I-64 in Jefferson County KSP used legal intervention by performing a pursuit intervention technique known as (PIT). The eluding taxicab was stopped bring the pursuit to an end.

The operator of the eluding vehicle Mark A. Olsen, age 53, of Louisville, KY, was arrested without further incident. He was taken to the Shelby County Detention Center. He was charged with 3 counts of Wanton Endangerment 1st, DUI 1st, Speeding, Reckless Driving, Resisting Arrest, Fleeing and Evading 1st and No Insurance.
