Fatal Traffic Crash in Whitley County

(LONDON, KY.) - On Wednesday November 20, 2013 at approximately 2:57 PM Trooper Duane Foley was traveling northbound on US 25 W, in Whitley County. TPR Foley was responding to an injury collision. He was operating a marked 2009 Ford, Crown Victoria with his emergency equipment activated.
As TPR Foley approached the intersection of Shiner Church Road he observed two vehicles slowing ahead of him in the northbound lane, he then entered the southbound lane to attempt to pass both vehicles. At this time a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro, operated by James E. King, 41, of Williamsburg, attempted to make a left turn onto Brays Chapel RD, and he pulled into the path of Trooper Foley. Trooper Foley attempted to avoid the collision but was unsuccessful and struck King's vehicle.
King was pronounced dead at the scene by the Whitley County Coroners Office.
TPR Foley was taken to the Baptist Regional Medical Center and was treated for his injuries before being released.
No drug or alcohol usage is suspected at this time.
KSP Sergeant Greg Hill is in charge of the investigation and was assisted at the scene by the Whitley County Sheriff's Office, Whitley County EMS, Woodbine Fire Department, Oak Grove Fire Department and the KSP Collision Analysis Branch.
