Assault 1st Investigation in Clay County

(LONDON, KY.) - On Monday, October 07, 2013, at approximately 5:41 PM the Kentucky State Police, Post 11, in London was notified by the Clay County 911 center of a domestic violence shooting that occurred on Hog Skin Road in northern Clay County.
Upon arrival Troopers learned through an investigation that Beverly Smith, 45, of Manchester had been involved in several domestic assault situations with her husband Douglas Smith, 52, of Manchester over the past several days.
Further investigation revealed that Douglas Smith had reportedly assaulted his wife several times earlier that day and had allegedly fired a firearm towards her. During a separate incident Mrs. Smith obtained the firearm and shot her husband in the chest area.
Douglas Smith was flown from the scene to the University of Kentucky Medical Center where he is being treated for his injuries.
No arrest has been made at this time.
KSP Detective Jeff Senters is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by KSP SGT Jesse Owens, TPR Matt Ridner, Officer David Rader, Deputies from the Clay County Sheriff's Office, Manchester Police Department and the Clay County EMS.
