KSP Post 11 Detective is Honored at State Wide Awards Ceremony

Date of News Release: 05/28/2013

(LONDON, KY.) -- On Thursday, May 23, 2013 Detective Don Sivils, from the Kentucky State Police Post 11, London, was honored at a state wide awards ceremony held at the Capital Plaza Hotel in Frankfort. Detective Sivils was awarded the "Detective of the Year" for Post 11, London.

Details of Detective Sivils achievements which led to the award are as follows:

Detective Don Sivils is currently assigned as a street-level drug investigator for Post 11, conducting investigations and handling multiple informants in the entire seven-county area.

Detective Sivils had an especially productive year in 2012 by conducting a total of 139 illegal drug purchases, opened 28 criminal cases, and conducted a thirteen-month long investigation that culminated in a round-up of twenty-seven suspects during March of 2012. In the weeks leading up to the round-up, Detective Sivils devoted numerous hours to scouting the suspects and compiling intelligence to ensure that all could be located on the day of the round-up. As a result of his efforts and personal sacrifice, all of the twenty-seven suspects were located and arrested in a single day.

Detective Sivils continues to conduct drug investigations and makes an average of eleven buys per month. He devotes countless hours to his own cases, but is always eager to assist other officers at the local, state, and federal levels.

Captain Phillip Burnett, Jr. stated, "As the Commander of Post 11, London, I am honored to work with so many dedicated Troopers. Troopers and Detectives, both at Post 11 and throughout the Kentucky State Police, were well deserving of these awards, but these particular officers dedication to duty and heroic actions in 2012 rose to a higher level and deserve the recognition they received."
