Accidental Shooting Investigation in Whitley County

(LONDON, KY.) -- On Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11:00 p.m., the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 in London received a report of a shooting incident on KY Highway 904 approximately 4 miles east of Williamsburg in Whitley County.
Upon arrival KSP Troopers Tony Dingess and Les Moses contacted Matthew N. Goins, 22 and William J. Bennett, 22, who were both suffering from a single gunshot wound each.
Troopers learned the two males were target shooting with a handgun when it became jammed. During an effort to clear the weapon of the jam it discharged striking Goins in the hand and Bennett in the leg. Both males were taking to the Baptist Regional Medical Center in Corbin for treatment of minor injuries.
The incident is classified as an accidental shooting and no charges are expected to be filed.
KSP Trooper Tony Dingess is continuing the investigation and was assisted at the scene by KSP Trooper Les Moses, KSP Sergeant Bill Elliotte and the Whitley County EMS.
