Traffic Crash with Injury in Wayne County

(LONDON, KY.) -- On Thursday, January 17, 2013 at approximately 7:00 AM, the Kentucky State Police, Post 11 London, received a report of a two vehicle traffic crash on KY 90 in Wayne County.

Upon arrival Trooper Craig Reed determined that a gold, 1998, Oldsmobile, Cutlass, passenger car operated by Justin Lee Carrender, 18, of Monticello, was traveling eastbound on KY 90 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the centerline and struck a red, 1999, Peterbilt, tractor / trailer, operated by Gary E. Wellman, 52, of McKee, on the north shoulder of the roadway.

Carrender was transported to the Wayne County Hospital and then flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center for treatment.

Wellman was not injured in the crash.

No drug or alcohol usage was suspected.

Trooper Reed is in charge of the investigation and was assited at the scene by officers from the Kentucky State Police, the Kentucky State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement, the Monticello Police Department, the Wayne county Sheriffs Office, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the Wayne County EMS and the Monticello Fire Department.
