Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest in Knox County

Date of News Release: 12/07/2013

(Barbourville, Ky.) - On December 6, 2013 at 6:04 P.M Kentucky State Police Trooper Wayne Hensley and Trooper Brian Maupin made a traffic stop on a green Ford F-150 on Hurricane Lane in Barbourville Kentucky after the operator failed to use a signal, nearly causing a collision with oncoming traffic. The driver of the vehicle was Bobby Smith, 61, from Dayton Ohio. Tpr. Hensley discovered that Mr. Smith had warrants from Knox, Bell, and Grant County. While investigating, troopers located a revolver, Marijuana, Crystal Meth, and $1670.00 in cash.

Mr. Smith was arrested and lodged in the Knox County Detention Center for the following charges.

  1. Failure to or improper signal.
  2. Operating on suspended or revoked operator's license.
  3. Improper display of registration plate.
  4. Possession of marijuana.
  5. Trafficking marijuana less than 8oz 1st offense.
  6. Possession of a controlled substance 1st degree 1st offense.
  7. Reckless driving.

Case is still under investigation by Trooper Wayne Hensley from Post 10 Harlan.
