Injury Collision Involving A Police Cruiser

(Pikeville,Ky.) -- On Thursday September 20, 2012 Kentucky State Police Post 9 Pikeville received a call of a two vehicle accident involving a police cruiser on U.S. 23 at the intersection of U.S. 119. KSP units were dispatched to the scene where information obtained indicates that a 2006 Ford Crown Victoria Police interceptor operated by Officer Joseph Slone of the Pikeville City Police Department was traveling northbound on US 23. Officer Slone was operating his emergency lights and siren responding to an emergency complaint when he approached the intersection. As Officer Slone attempted to pass through the intersection his cruiser was struck on the passenger side by a 2001 ford Ranger operated by Kevin Hunt of Kimper, Ky. Officer Slone, his passenger Officer Russell Blankenship and Kevin Hunt were all transported to Pikeville Medical Center for minor injuries. The Collision remains under investigation by Trooper J.M. Gabbard. trooper Gabbard was assisted on scene by KSP Captain Curtis O'Bannon, Lt. Darren Stapleton, Sgt. Chris Hollan and Trooper Jason McClellan.
