One Killed in a Two Vehicle Collision on KY 114

(Prestonsburg, Ky.) -- On Tuesday May 15, 2012 Post 9 Pikeville received a call of a two vehicle accident on Ky 114 in the Prestonsburg community of Floyd County. KSP units arrived on scene and preliminary information indicates that James Mace was traveling East on Ky 114 in a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when his vehicle crossed the centerline. The 2000 Malibu then struck a Westbound 2009 Dodge Excaliber operated by 63 year old Brenda Montgomery of Jackson, Ky.

Brenda Montgomery was transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead by Floyd County Coroner Greg Nelson. Elsie Oakley, a passenger in the Montgomery vehicle was transported to Highlands Regional Medical Center and then air lifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital. James Mace and his passenger Jonathan Crider were both airlifted to Cabell Huntington Hospital.

This accident remains under investigation by KSP Trooper Bryan Layne. Trooper Layne was assisted on scene by KSP Detective Chris Phillips, Trooper Eddie Crum, KSP Sergeant Ronald Peppi, Lieutenant Darren Stapleton, Trooper John Gabbard, Trooper Jake Stinnett, Trooper Clifton Royal and Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Tommy Gearheart.
