Structure Fire Claims the Life in Paintsville, Ky

(Paintsville, Ky.) - On Sunday, April 29th, 2012, at 0020 hours, Paintsville 911 received a call of a structure fire at 1120 Short Street in Paintsville in Johnson County. Shortly after firefighters arrived on scene and initiated interior attack, the body of 46-year-old John W. Meade was located inside of the residence. The Kentucky State Police was then notified to respond to the scene in order to assist the firefighters. The patient was transported by Paintsville EMS to Paul B Hall Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by Johnson County Coroner J.R. Frisby.

Units assisting on scene included Kentucky State Police Detective Jason Dials, Trooper Rodney Pratt, KSP Arson Investigator Randy Gabbard, Deputy State Fire Marshal Dave Broderick, Paintsville Fire Department, West Van Lear Fire Department, Paintsville EMS, Paintsville Police Department, the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, and the Johnson County coroner's office.

A Paintsville firefighter suffered injuries related to the fire and he was transported to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in West Virginia where he is currently being treated in the ICU unit. The incident is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police in Pikeville.
