Injury Bus Collision on KY 11 in Montgomery County

(Mt. Sterling, KY) -- On Monday September 17, 2012, at 3:39pm, Kentucky State Police Morehead was contacted in reference to a two vehicle injury accident on KY 11 (Levee Road) near Cane Valley. Henry Trimble, of Jeffersonville, was operating a 1994 International School bus with children on board, North on KY 11. Mr. Trimble was attempting to slow down for a child drop off at a residence. Paula Hatton, of Clay City, was operating a 1996 Ford Explorer, South on KY 11 and when she failed to negotiate a right hand curve, causing her vehicle to cross over the centerline and into the path of the school bus in the northbound lane. Ms. Hatton overcorrected her vehicle and made contact with the school bus in the front end with the left rear portion of her vehicle. The contact with the school bus forced Ms. Hatton's vehicle over an embankment coming to final rest with her trapped inside the vehicle. Ms. Hatton was extricated from the vehicle and transported to St. Joseph Hospital in Mt. Sterling for non-life threatening injuries. Mr. Trimble and the children on board were not injured in the accident. Trooper Jason Brown, Trooper Michael Armstrong, Master Trooper Joe Veeneman, Sergeant Jeff Crase, CVE Sergeant Jason Townsend, Montgomery County School Resource Officers, Montgomery County Fire/Rescue and Montgomery County EMS. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Jonathan Moore, Unit 749.
