Felony Arrest in Rowan County

(Morehead, KY) -- On Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at 221 hours Kentucky State Police while on routine patrol Trooper Christopher Jones and Trooper Thurman Paige observed John R. Thompson, 44 on a 2008 white Yamaha ATV near the intersection of Kentucky 801 and Kentucky 1722. Trooper Jones and Trooper Paige initiated their emergency lights, at that time Mr. Thompson shut the ATV headlights off and began to flee on the ATV turning in front of the patrol car onto Kentucky 801 South, then a left onto Old Kentucky 801 North and then an immediate left up a gravel driveway, where he abandoned the ATV and continued to flee on foot. Mr. Thompson was apprehended by Trooper Paige behind Mr. Thompson's residence, upon making contact with the subject Trooper Paige smelled a strong odor of alcohol. John R. Thompson was apprehended without incident and has been charged with, Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs or Alcohol, 2nd Degree, Fleeing or Evading Police, 1st Degree Motor Vehicle, Operating ATV on the Roadway, and Failure to Notify Department of Transportation of address change. Mr. Thompson is currently lodged at the Rowan County Detention Center. Incident remains under investigation by Trooper Thurman Paige, who was assisted on scene by Trooper Christopher Jones.
