One Killed in a Collision on I-64

(Morehead, KY) -- On Sunday, May 13th, 2012, at 7:45 P.M. Kentucky State Police in Morehead received a phone call from Rowan County Dispatch in reference to a two vehicle injury accident at the 133 mile marker on Interstate 64 eastbound in Rowan County. Trooper Scott Caudill, Trooper Joseph Zalone, Trooper Anson Tribby, KSP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Tommy Jones, Rowan County Sheriff's Department Deputies Donnie Hall, and Joe Cline, Farmers Fire Department, and Rowan County EMS responded to the scene. Michael Cornett of Lexington was traveling westbound in his 2009 Toyota Camry with his wife, Leslie Cornett, and son, Kevin Cornett. Mr. Cornett lost control of the vehicle and crossed the median colliding with a 2007 Freightliner tractor trailer traveling eastbound, operated by David Odell. Leslie Cornett and Kevin Cornett were taken to St. Claire Regional Medical Center and later transported to University of Kentucky Medical Center. Michael Cornett was pronounced deceased at St. Claire Regional Medical Center by Rowan County Coroner John Northcutt as of a result of injuries sustained in the collision. Heavy rain and wet road conditions are believed to have played a role in the accident. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Scott Caudill.
