Date of News Release: 04/23/2012

(Morehead, KY) -- On Monday, April, 23, 2012, Kentucky State Police Post 8 Morehead was contacted by St. Claire Medical Center in reference to an incident of a juvenile being struck by a van on Triplett Creek Road in Rowan County. Trooper Brent Sparks and Trooper Michael Wathen responded to the scene. Jerry L. Flannery, of Morehead, KY, was operating a 1997 Mercury Villager van east on Triplett Creek Road. Mr. Flannery traveled upon a hillcrest. Mr. Flannery applied his brakes and steered to the left in an attempt to avoid striking the child. The van struck the child on the roadway before coming to final rest on Triplett Creek Road. The two year old male juvenile was air-lifted to the UK Medical Center with unknown injuries. Initial investigation indicates the juvenile was playing in the roadway at the time the accident occurred. No charges have been filed at this time. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor. The juvenile is currently listed in stable condition. The accident remains under investigation by Trooper Brent Sparks.
