March Activity with March Checkpoint

(Morehead, KY) -- Kentucky State Police at Post 8 Morehead announce the final traffic and criminal activity report for March 2012. During March Post 8 personnel issued 1499 total citations. Of those citations, 23 were for DUI, 195 were for Speeding, 113 for No Seat Belt, and 11 for Child Restraint. In addition, there were 1,586 Vehicle Inspections and 299 Courtesy Notices issued. Post 8 also investigated 51 Traffic Collisions. There were only 4 fatalities to report during March, two in Montgomery County and two in Lewis County. Post 8 personnel also investigated 1,258 Complaints. A total of 78 Criminal Cases were opened and a total of 286 Criminal Arrests were made for the month of March 2012. A total of 3 Programs were conducted.

Additionally, Captain Bobby D. Murray, Commander of the Kentucky State Police at Morehead, announces that Troopers of the Morehead Post will be conducting Safety Checkpoints in addition to Moving Patrols throughout the Post 8 area during the entire month of March as well the remainder of the year 2012. Emphasis will be placed during Easter weekend.

This concentrated enforcement effort will utilize Troopers and Detectives assigned to and working the Morehead post area. Members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement (CVE) will also be utilized. They will focus on enforcing violations of Speeding, No Seat Belt, Child Restraint, Impaired Driving Laws, and Texting While Driving, as well as other violations of the Traffic Laws of Kentucky.
