Three Injured in a Collision on I-64 (between 144-145 mile marker)
Date of News Release: 01/02/2012
(Morehead, Ky.) -- On January 2, 2012, beginning at 12:35 p.m., Kentucky State Police responded to a series of chain reaction accidents on I-64 in Rowan County between the 144-145 mile marker. Due to weather conditions of snow and wind, traffic on I-64 was moving at reduced speed. As the 2006 Chevy Uplander operated by Evelyn Maynard approached the slow moving traffic, she attempted to avoid collision and swerved into the left and right lanes until entering the median and overturning. Passenger Karen Denniston was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Ms. Maynard and passenger Gladys Stroud, were extricated by the Morehead Fire Department and transported to St. Claire Hospital in Morehead. Ms. Denniston was transported to U.K. Hospital in Lexington. Due to this accident, and ones that followed, I-64 was intermittently shut down until approximately 3:00 p.m.
