KSP Richmond Post, Investigates Collision Involving Madison County Deputy

(Berea, KY) - On Friday, July 20, 2012 at 7:45 a.m. EDT the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was contacted about a collision on Mt. Vernon Road / U.S. 25 in southern Madison County.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a 2007 Chevrolet 4 door operated by Kathern L. Dawson was headed north on Mount Vernon Road. Dawson stated she looked away from the road to adjust her radio and tapped her brakes. Dawson lost control of her vehicle and crossed over the southbound lane and off the southbound shoulder. Dawson's vehicle struck Deputy James Thompson's vehicle, which was stationary in a gravel lot beside the road. Deputy Thompson was sitting in his cruiser doing paperwork.
Both occupants were using seat belts at the time of the collision.
Kathern L. Dawson, 38 years old of Berea, reported no injury.
Deputy James Thompson, 51 years old of Berea, was transported to Berea Hospital for precautionary reasons. He was treated and released.
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Officer Charles Tinsley is the investigating officer.
