Pedestrian Struck by Kentucky State Police Trooper in Madison County

(Richmond, KY) - On Friday, July 6, 2012, at 10:00 p.m. EDT the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post received a report of a traffic collision with injuries, involving a Kentucky State Police vehicle on KY 876 / Barnes Mill Road west of Richmond, KY.

Senior Trooper Michael P. Luttrell, operating a 2009 Ford marked state police vehicle, was eastbound on KY 876. Preliminary investigation indicates as Trooper Luttrell was traveling on KY 876 a pedestrian, Charles L Walden, 20 years of age, of Richmond, who was walking along the roadway, was struck by the vehicle operated by Trooper Luttrell.

Charles Walden was transported to University of Kentucky Hospital for treatment. Trooper Luttrell was not injured in the collision.

Trooper Luttrell, 27 years of age, was on duty and responding to a non-emergency call for service at the time of the crash. He is a five-year veteran of the Kentucky State Police.

The crash is being investigated by the Kentucky State Police Regional Reconstruction Team. Assisting at the scene were the Madison County EMS, Madison County Fire & Rescue and Madison County Sheriffs Department.
