Two Killed in a Fatal Collision in Madison County

(Waco, KY) - On Friday, April 20, 2012 at 7:59 am EST, the Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post responded to a two vehicle collision on KY 52 near the Estill County Line. Trooper Ken Bradley was dispatched to the scene, as well as several other officers, Madison County EMS, Madison County Coroners office, Madison County Sheriff's Office, Madison County Rescue Squad and Waco Fire Department.

Preliminary investigation has revealed that Joshua Nelson (28) was driving a Chevrolet 4-door passenger car heading west on KY 52. Taylor Shea Nelson (24), Jacob Nelson (3) and Jonah Nelson (1), all from Waco, KY, were also in the vehicle. The Nelsons were struck head on by a Buick SUV headed east on KY 52. The Buick was operated by Lance Patterson (46) of Richmond, KY. Cody Patterson (16) was a passenger in the Buick.

Joshua Nelson and Jacob Nelson were pronounced deceased at the scene by the Madison County Coroner. Taylor Shea Nelson and Jonah Nelson were transported to University of Kentucky Hospital with life threatening injuries and are listed in critical condition.

Lance Patterson and Cody Patterson were transported to Patti A Clay Emergency Room for treatment. Lance Patterson was taken to UK Hospital for additional treatment for his injuries.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation by Kentucky State Police.
