Update: Two Children Killed in Carroll County Bus Crash

(Carrollton, KY) Kosair Children's Hospital has advised that the three children flown to Kosair after yesterday's crash are all in stable condition. The three children that were released from the crash scene to their parents also went to Kosair last night for precautionary measures. Two of those children were checked out and released, the third was held overnight for observations and is expected to be released today. The bus assistant is in serious condition at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Update: Two Children Killed in Carroll County Bus Crash

(Carrollton, KY) As of 11:45 a.m., the Kentucky State Police has not received word on the condition of the three children that were flown to Kosair Children's Hospital. The child that was flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center is in serious condition. The condition of the bus assistant, who was flown to the University of Kentucky, is unknown at this time.

The two children that were killed in the crash have been identified as Ryder Deitz and Caroline Tuttle, both three years old from Carrollton, KY.

An accident reconstruction team is currently examining the bus to look for any mechanical issues or other factors that could have contributed to the crash. Another reconstruction team is at the crash site finishing up the investigation at the scene.

Additional information on the conditions of the crash victims will be sent out as it becomes available.

Two Children Killed in Carroll County Bus Crash

(Carrollton, KY) Two Carroll County children have been killed after the Head Start bus they were riding in crashed on Boone Road in Carroll County. Carroll County dispatchers received a 911 call of the crash at 4:32 p.m. Initial investigation shows that the bus left the roadway for currently unknown reasons, partially overturned onto its side, and hit a tree. There were nine children on the bus at the time of the crash. Along with the driver, there was also an adult assistant on the bus. Two of the children were pronounced dead at the scene by the Carroll County Coroner. Three of the children were flown by Air Methods, Inc. and PHI, Inc. to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville. One child and the bus assistant were flown to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. Three children were examined at the scene and released to their parents. The driver of the bus was not injured. The medical conditions of passengers transported to area hospitals in unknown at this time. The Head Start bus is equipped with seatbelts and it appears that they were in use by all occupants at the time of the crash.

Trooper Dusty Corbin, an accident reconstructionist, is leading the ongoing investigation. Trooper Corbin was assisted at the scene by the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, Carrollton Police Department, Carroll County EMS, Carroll County Rescue, Ghent Fire Department, Gallatin County EMS, Henry County EMS, and the Henry County Coroner.
