Owen County Man Killed in Crash

(Monterey, KY) -– Troopers from KSP Post 5 responded to a fatal collision at 6:59 this morning (05/16/2012) in Owen County. The collision occurred several hours earlier but was not called in until another driver saw the vehicle. Investigation by Troopers showed that the vehicle, driven by 55 year old Lamonte Richardson of Owenton, was traveling east on Frank Clark Road when the driver failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree. Both Lamonte Richardson and a passenger, 59 year old David Richardson of Owenton, were trapped in the vehicle. Lamonte Richardson was extracted and was not injured. David Richardson was pronounced dead at the scene by Owen County Coroner Lanis Garnett. Lamonte Richardson was charged with Driving Under the Influence. Other charges relating to the crash are pending. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.

Trooper Dusty Corbin is leading the ongoing investigation. Trooper Corbin was assisted at the scene by the Owen County Sheriff's Office, Owen County Life Squad, Owen County Search and Rescue, and the Monterey Fire Department.
