Trooper Nabs Thief That Stole From Parked Tractor Trailer While Driver Was Sleeping

(BIG CLIFTY, KY) -- On Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at approximately 6:26 a.m. ET Post 4 received a call to attempt to locate a white Chevrolet S-10 pickup that had just left the Dollar Store located on Elizabethtown Road in Big Clifty, KY. The operator of the S-10 backed the vehicle up to a tractor trailer that was waiting to make a delivery at the store once it opened. The driver of the tractor trailer was asleep in the cab. The driver heard a noise and observed the S-10 turn east on US 62 toward Hardin County. According to the driver of the big truck the operator of the S-10 had cut the seal on the trailer and stole approximately $1,000.00 in merchandise. Approximately 5 minutes later, Tpr. Brad Riley observed the vehicle at the intersection of US 62 and Old Leitchfield Road in Hardin County. 36-year-old Tracey J. Hart was arrested without incident and charged with Careless Driving, Failure to Wear Seatbelt, DUI 1st Offense, No Insurance 1st Offense, Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (brass knuckles), and Receiving Stolen Property Under $10,000.00. He was lodged in the Hardin County Detention Center. All merchandise was returned to the Dollar General Store with additional items located at Hart's residence. Tpr. Riley was assisted by Tpr. S. Rafferty, Tpr. D. Kelly and Grayson County Deputy Adam Cottrell. The investigation is ongoing.
