Elizabethtown Post Reports Activity For The Month Of October 2012

(ELIZABETHTOWN, KY)- The Kentucky State Police Post 04 in Elizabethtown covers 8 counties. They include: Hardin, Jefferson, Bullitt, Nelson, Meade, Breckinridge, Larue, and Grayson.
We will continue to conduct traffic safety checkpoints through November and the rest of 2012 looking for impaired drivers and restraint violations at various locations throughout our post area.
For the month of October 2012, Post 04 Troopers wrote a total of 1,744 citations. We removed 53 drunk drivers from Kentucky roadways and cited 452 speeders. 228 violators were charged for failure to wear a seatbelt and nine citations were for failure to use a child restraint. We investigated 108 crashes and conducted 2,143 vehicle inspections. 808 motorists were given a courtesy notice in lieu of a traffic citation for minor traffic offenses. We assisted 146 motorists stranded on Kentucky roadways and answered over 1,210 citizen's complaints. We were involved in 655 special details and conducted over 50 community programs which reached over 6,000 citizens of the Commonwealth. Our Detectives and Troopers opened over 84 criminal cases, made 265 criminal arrests, and served over 46 criminal court documents. In addition, we contacted over 633 victims of crimes on cases that we investigated. In total, Post 04 Troopers, Detectives, and Command Staff logged over 9,611 hours of service for the Kentucky citizens we served.
Preliminary statistics* indicate that 17 people died in 16 separate crashes on Kentucky's roadways from Monday, Nov. 5 through Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012.
One double fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in Kenton County.
Two single fatality motor vehicle crashes occurred in Marion County. Neither victim was wearing a seat belt.
One single fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Boyd, Carroll Clark, Daviess, Floyd, Garrard, Jefferson, Johnson, Madison, Marshall, Nelson and Perry. Four of the victims were not wearing seat belts and five of the crashes involved the use of alcohol.
One motorcycle crash occurred in Trigg County. The victim was not wearing a helmet and alcohol was involved.
Through Nov. 12, preliminary statistics* indicate that 628 people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2012. This is two fewer than reported for this time period in 2011. Of the 490 motor vehicle fatalities, 276 victims were not wearing seat belts. Of the 73 motorcycle fatalities, 38 were not wearing a helmet. Eleven of the 13 ATV fatalities were not wearing a helmet. Forty-five pedestrians, one scooter/moped rider and six bicycle riders have been killed. A total of 114 fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
*These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
