Grayson County Escapee Arrested In Richmond

(Richmond, KY) – On Thursday, July 19, 2012, at 6:43 p.m. EDT Kentucky State Police, Richmond Post was notified about a possible stolen vehicle traveling south on I-75.
Troopers located the vehicle on South Keeneland Drive in Richmond where the operator was attempting to unload property from the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been stolen from Lexington on July 17, 2012.
Joshua L McDowell, 22 years old of Lexington, was arrested at 7:00 p.m. and charged with Receiving Stolen Property Under $10,000, for being in possession of the stolen vehicle. Further investigation revealed McDowell was also wanted for Escape Second Degree from the Grayson County Detention Center and Kidnapping. The property McDowell was removing from the vehicle is also believed to be stolen.
A passenger in the vehicle, Christie M Hanley, 27 years old of Lexington was arrested and charged with Receiving Stolen Property Under $10,000. Warrants for Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest from Fayette County were served on Hanley by Trooper Edwards.
Trooper Bobby Edwards is the investigating officer and was assisted at the scene by Trooper Michael Keeton and Trooper Gregory Newman.
The investigation into the Escape and Kidnapping charges against McDowell are being handled by the Kentucky State Police, Elizabethtown Post (270) 766-5078.

State Inmate Escapes From Grayson County Detention Center

(LEITCHFIELD, KY) – On Friday, June 29, 2012 at approximately 12:05 p.m. CDT, 22-year-old state inmate Joshua L. McDowell escaped from the Grayson County Detention Center by climbing a fence and fleeing on foot. McDowell made his way to an area restaurant where he solicited a ride from an 18-year-old youth by telling him he was broke down on the Western Kentucky Parkway. While on the WK Parkway, McDowell told the youth that he was an escaped inmate and that he was going to drive to Lexington, KY. McDowell told the youth that he was taking over the driving as they switched positions. McDowell drove the vehicle to an area in downtown Lexington where he let himself out. It is believed that McDowell may be in the Irishtown community. He is described as a white male, approximately 5'8" tall, and weighs 160 lbs. He has brown hair and brown eyes and was last seen wearing a gray tee shirt with INMATE on the back, blue work pants, and white tennis shoes.
McDowell was serving a 3-year sentence for Burglary 3rd. The investigation is ongoing by Tpr. Brad Riley. McDowell has been charged with Escape 2nd Degree and other charges may be pending. Anyone with information on McDowell's whereabouts is encouraged to contact the State Police at 1-800-222-5555.
