Trooper and Nelson County Deputy Collide While Turning On Speeder On US31E

(NEW HAVEN, KY) – On Monday April 23, 2012 at approximately 2:02 p.m. ET Kentucky State Police Trooper C.G. Perry clocked a vehicle at a high rate of speed traveling south on US31E in Nelson County. Tpr. Perry was northbound and pulled off the roadway to turn around on the suspect vehicle. Once he was southbound, Tpr. Perry engaged his emergency equipment and pursued the suspect. Nelson County Sheriff's Deputy Michael Clark was also southbound on US31E and clocked the same vehicle at a high rate of speed. Dpty. Clark pulled into a driveway in an attempt to turn around on the suspect. Dpty. Clark did not see Tpr. Perry approaching and backed onto the roadway. Tpr. Perry was unable to avoid a collision and struck Dpty. Clark in the passenger side rear. Tpr. Perry was transported to Flaget Hospital. He suffered a broken hand and is to undergo surgery. Dpty. Clark was also transported to Flaget Hospital. He sustained injuries to his head and face and will require sutures. The collision occurred approximately 1 mile north of New Haven. The suspect vehicle continued south and did not stop after the collision. The investigation into the crash is being conducted by KSP Sgt. Mark Gillingham.
