Injury Collision on the Interstate 65 in Barren County

(Bowling Green, KY) -- On December 18, 2012 at approximately 8:36 pm, Kentucky State Police Post 3 received the complaint of a motor vehicle accident with injuries, involving an overturned pick-up truck and a commercial vehicle, southbound on I-65, near the 43 Mile Marker.

Marc Bishop (41) of Clarksville, TN, was operating a 2013 Averitt Express Freightliner, when he stated he briefly took his eyes off of the roadway to retrieve his cellular telephone. The Freightliner then struck a 1989 Ford Ranger pick-up and trailer, which was being operated by Francisco C. Chavez (64) of Florence, KY. Upon impact, the Ford Ranger and the trailer exited the right hand side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Chavez had to extricated from the vehicle and was flown to the University of Louisville Hospital by Air Methods. Chavez&339; passenger, Silvia Chavez (53) of Florence, KY, was also flown from the scene to the University of Louisville Hospital by Air Evac. They are both currently listed in stable condition.

Bishop and his passenger, Michael P. Huycke (58) of Oak Grove, KY, were not injured.

Trooper was assisted on scene by Troopers Timmy Jewell and Randy Chambers, CVE, Barren-Metcalfe EMS, Park City Volunteer Fire Dept., Air Methods, Air Evac, KY Dept. of Transportation, Crossroads Towing and Alvey's Towing.
