Collision Results in Fugitive Arrest

Date of News Release: 11/03/2012

(Barren County, KY) -- On Friday, October 26, 2012 at 3:45 p.m., the Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green received a call for service in reference to a two vehicle accident with injuries on I-65 near the 49 mile post marker southbound in Barren County. Through investigation it was determined that Unit One, a 2008 Honda Odyssey Van, was northbound on I-65 near the 49 mile post marker when the operator attempted to switch from the right lane to the left lane. While doing so, Unit One struck the left rear side of Unit Two, a 2011 Honda Accord, also northbound, causing the operator of Unit One to lose control and strike a concrete barrier. Unit One then overturned onto its top where it came to final rest in the middle of the roadway.

It was determined that the operator of Unit One, Terry Hardin (48) of Jackson, Mississippi, was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision. The vehicle Mr. Hardin was operating had been reported stolen from Sandusky, Ohio. It was also determined that Mr. Hardin was a wanted fugitive from Mississippi for Parole Violation. He was subsequently apprehended without incident and transported to TJ Samson Hospital where he was treated and released to the Barren County Jail.

Mr. Hardin was charged with: Operating on a Suspended License, DUI 2nd Agg. Circumstances, Poss of Open Alcoholic Beverage Container in Motor Vehicle, Receiving Stolen Property $10,000 or more, and Fugitive from Another State.

The operator of Unit Two, Barry Hale (58) of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, was not injured during the collision. The stolen vehicle was seized at the scene by KSP.

Trooper Jeremy Smith is the lead investigator and he was assisted at the scene by Trooper Daniel White and Barren County EMS.
