Pursuit Ends with Collision in Warren County

(Bowling Green, KY.) -- On Sunday, August 19, 2012 at 9:11 A.M., Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green Trooper Wayne Mayfield observed James Coitrone (34) of Scottsville, KY driving his 2009 Harley Davidson on Veterans Memorial in Warren County, Kentucky. Trooper Mayfield attempted to make a traffic stop on Mr. Coitrone due to Mr. Coitrone having a felony warrant for Kidnapping and Rape 1st Degree.
Mr. Coitrone failed to yield to Trooper Mayfield's emergency equipment and fled. Trooper Brett Coomes joined the pursuit after approximately one mile. As they entered a congested area, Coitrone attempted to pass a line of cars that were stopped in traffic and Trooper Coomes followed. As Coitrone approached oncoming traffic, he veered back into the right lane. Trooper Coomes attempted to avoid the on-coming traffic and re-entered the right lane. As Coitrone abruptly slowed, Trooper Coomes cruiser made contact with the back of the motorcycle.
Mr. Coitrone was taken by helicopter to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee. His is currently listed in critical condition. The investigation is ongoing by the KSP.
