Freightliner Tractor Trailer Collision on I-65

Date of News Release: 06/11/2012

(Bowling Green, KY.) -- On Sunday, June 10, 2012, at 4:09 pm Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to the 55 mile marker on Interstate 65 in Hart County in reference to an overturned commercial vehicle.

According to Trooper Justin Roundtree's preliminary investigation, a 2003 Freightliner tractor trailer operated by Joshua Draper (34) of Vancouver WA, was traveling north bound on Interstate 65 when he lost control of his vehicle due to dropping his cellular phone.

Mr.Draper's vehicle veered to the right hand emergency lane where he struck a road sign and guard railing. Mr. Draper then over corrected the vehicle and traveled across both lanes of north bound traffic where he struck the cable barrier overturning onto the Interstate blocking both lanes of north bound traffic.

Mr. Draper was transported to TJ Sampson Hospital where he was treated and release. A passenger in the vehicle, Carlos Sanchez (55) of Fontana CA, was also transported to TJ Sampson Hospital and then transferred to the University of Louisville Medical Center where he is listed in stable condition.

The commercial vehicle Mr. Draper was operating was loaded with strawberries which spilled onto the interstate after the accident.

Both lanes of the interstate were closed at the 57 mile marker and traffic was detoured off of Interstate 65 at the Cave City exit onto US 31W.

Alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this accident.

Trooper Roundtree was assisted at the scene by Troopers Graham Rutherford, Ronnie Reynolds,Timmy Jewel and Sgt. Derrick Grant. Also assisting was the Hart County Emergency Management, Hart County Ambulance, Cave City Fire Department and Horse Cave Fire Department.

The investigation is ongoing and is being led by Trooper Justin Roundtree.
