Death Investigation in Barren County

Date of News Release: 03/16/2012

(Bowling Green, KY) -- At 9:59 P.M. (CST), Kentucky State Police Post 3 received a shooting complaint from the Barren County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) at 10194 Finney Road in Glasgow, KY.

At 9:31 P.M., BCSO received a call for service at the above address from Richard Smith (45) of Glasgow. The complaint was in regards to Chevrolet truck with a broken taillight driving by his residence and that Norman Preston (43) of Smith Grove, KY was driving the vehicle. Less than five minutes later a second call was made stating that the truck had pulled into the drive way and that the male subject had a gun.

At 9:46 P.M., a third call was made from the above residence requesting a coroner and that two subjects were dead.

Preliminary investigation shows that the Norman Preston allegedly forced his way into the residence owned by Richard Smith. Gun Fire was exchanged by both individuals while in the residence. Norman Preston shot Richard Smith fatally wounding him. Norman Preston then went into the living area and shot himself. Both subjects succumbed to their injuries. They were both transported to Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville, Kentucky.

The investigation is ongoing.

(Bowling Green, KY) -- On Thursday, March 15, 2012, at 9:59 P.M. (CST) Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to a shooting complaint at 10194 Finney Road in Glasgow, Kentucky. KSP was contacted by the Barren County Sheriff's Office and requested that KSP work the investigation.

When KSP personnel arrived on scene two bodies were discovered at the above residence. No further details are being released at this time.

The investigation is ongoing and under the direction of Detective Laura Isenberg. Det. Isenberg was assisted on scene by KSP Personnel, Barren County Sheriff Office, Barren County Coroner's office and Barren/Metcalfe EMS.
