Two Vehicle Injury Collision Involving Butler County Deputy Sheriff

(Bowling Green, KY) -- On Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 4:05 P.M. (CST), Kentucky State Police Post 3 Bowling Green responded to W. GL Smith Street in Morgantown, Kentucky regarding an injury collision.

Preliminary investigation determined that Butler County Deputy Sheriff, Bobbie Hooten (38) of Morgantown, Kentucky was traveling south on W. GL Smith Street in his 2010 Dodge Patrol vehicle. Kayla Phelps (18) of Beaver Dam was Northbound in the turning lane in her 2001 Hyundai. Ms. Phelps attempted to make a left hand turn into King Drugs and into the path of Deputy Hooten. The vehicles collided nearly head-on in the southbound lane.

Ms. Phelps and her passengers, Melinda Phelps (18) of Morgantown, KY and Cindy Cockrel (39) also of Morgantown refused medical treatment at the scene. Deputy Hooten was transported by EMS to the Medical Center where he was treated and released.

Both parties were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

Trooper Brian McKinney is investigated the collision and was assisted on scene by Butler County Sheriff's Office, Morgantown City Police, Butler County Rescue, Morgantown Fire Department, and Butler County EMS.
