Stats from Post 2 for December 2012

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of December 2012, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 37 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,581 Citations
  • Issued 562 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 136 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 11 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 751 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 96 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 209 Stranded Motorists
  • Responded to 877 Calls for Service
  • Opened 55 Criminal Cases
  • Made 128 Criminal Arrests

**There were 4 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 5 lives reported in the Post 2 District in December 2012. A double-fatality crash and a single-fatality crash occurred in Christian County. The double-fatality crash involved the suspected use of alcohol and neither victim was wearing a seatbelt. The single-fatality victim was wearing a seatbelt. Single fatalities also occurred in Muhlenberg (pedestrian) and Webster Counties (victim wearing a seatbelt).

Through December 31, 2012, there have been 29 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 31 lives reported in the Post 2 District: 15 victims were not wearing seatbelts, 9 victims were wearing seatbelts, 1 victim was not wearing a helmet, 4 victims were wearing a helmet, and 2 victims were pedestrians.

Through December 31, 2011, 35 people had been killed in 33 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
