Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest and Search Warrant

Items confiscated during the search

Central City, KY. (Muhlenberg County) - Two Muhlenberg County residents were arrested Saturday evening on drug and other charges. Just before 7:00 PM on November 24th, Trooper Jon McGehee observed a Ford Expedition traveling on the wrong side of US 431 near the community of Cleaton. During the traffic stop, John D. Reid of Drakesboro, was determined to be driving under the influence of drugs. During further investigation at the scene, Mr. Reid was found to be in possession of various suspected drugs to include Xanax, hydromorphone pills, marijuana, and a substance believed to be opium. Mr. Reid was also in possession of a handgun. The passenger in the vehicle, Julie Mackey of Drakesboro, was in possession of suspected methamphetamine, Xanax, marijuana, and various items of drug paraphernalia. A K-9 with the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Office assisted with the search of the vehicle which yielded the discovery of several small bags of suspected methamphetamine.

Items confiscated during the search

During the roadside investigation, enough information was obtained to secure a search warrant for John Reid's residence on Hilltop Lane in Drakesboro. During the search, Troopers and Deputies with the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's office located a large quantity of suspected crystal methamphetamine. Officers also located marijuana and various types of drug paraphernalia. Officers seized 30 firearms from the home to include a handgun with a defaced serial number. Reid and Mackey were both placed into custody and charged with numerous offenses. Each was lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center. The Kentucky State Police and Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Office continue to investigate. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources assisted at the scene.

John D. Reid, 32 of Drakesboro, was charged with the following:

  • Driving Improperly on the Left Side of the Roadway
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Drugs/Alcohol 2nd Offense (Aggravated)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Two Counts)
  • Possession of Controlled Substance 2nd Degree
  • Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree
  • Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container
  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Two Counts)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Trafficking in Marijuana
  • Possession of a Defaced Firearm
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Julie A. Mackey, 25 of Drakesboro, was charged with the following:

  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Two Counts)
  • Possession of Marijuana
  • Trafficking in Marijuana
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 3rd Degree
  • Prescription Controlled Substance Not in Proper Container
  • Possession of a Defaced Firearm
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia (Two Counts)
