Muhlenberg County Fire & Death Investigation

(Muhlenberg County) -– On Friday, November 23, 2012, approximately 8:30 P.M., Kentucky State Police, Post 2-Madisonville was contacted regarding a fire that occurred at 4861 State Route 70E Drakesboro, KY. The caller reported that an older travel-trailer was on fire and believed that someone was inside. After the fire was extinguished, an investigation confirmed that Charles W. Smith, age 70, of Drakesboro, KY, was inside the trailer when the fire began and was not able to escape. He was pronounced deceased by the Muhlenberg County Coronor's Office. The fire originated from inside the trailer and the cause appears to have been accidental in nature. The investigation is continuing.
