Stats from Post 2 for September 2012

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of September 2012, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 32 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,282 Citations
  • Issued 885 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 159 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 11 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 795 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 76 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 199 Stranded Motorists
  • Responded to 850 Calls for Service
  • Opened 61 Criminal Cases
  • Made 274 Criminal Arrests

**There were 3 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 4 lives reported in the Post 2 District in September 2012. A double-fatality occurred in Hopkins County. Single fatalities occurred in Christian and Todd Counties. One victim was not wearing a seatbelt and 3 victims were wearing helmets.

Through September 30, 2012, there have been 20 fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of 21 lives reported in the Post 2 District: 11 victims were not wearing seatbelts, 4 victims were wearing seatbelts, 1 victim was not wearing a helmet, 4 victims were wearing a helmet, and 1 victim was a pedestrian.

Through September 30, 2011, 24 people had been killed in 23 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
