Single-Vehicle Injury Collision Involving Tractor-Trailer

Date of News Release: 09/27/2012

Hopkinsville, KY. (Christian County) The Kentucky State Police is investigating a single-vehicle injury collision that occurred on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at approximately 6:09 a.m. on Interstate 24 at the 72 mile-marker.

The preliminary investigation revealed that Paul E. Jenkins, age 47 of Lakeland, FL, was operating a 2001 International tractor-trailer eastbound on I-24. He was hauling cooking oil. As Mr. Jenkins was traveling eastbound, it appears that he fell asleep. The vehicle drifted into the median. Mr. Jenkins attempted to steer the vehicle back onto the roadway, but was not successful. It overturned on the roadway blocking both eastbound lanes of travel including both shoulders of the roadway.

Mr. Jenkins was transported via ambulance to the Trigg County Hospital where he was treated and released. He was wearing a seatbelt.

At the present time, the eastbound driving (right) lane is closed. The eastbound passing (left) lane is open.

Trooper Michael Dennis is investigating the collision. The Square Deal Fire Department, Hopkinsville EMS, and Kentucky Transportation Cabinet assisted at the scene.
