Stats from Post 2 for July 2012

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of July 2012, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 29 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,651 Citations
  • Issued 1,095 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 298 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 16 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 720 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 68 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 238 Stranded Motorists
  • Responded to 987 Calls for Service
  • Opened 80 Criminal Cases
  • Made 237 Criminal Arrests

**There were three fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three lives reported in the Post 2 District in July 2012. One fatality occurred in Crittenden County and two fatalities occurred in Hopkins County. Two victims were not wearing seatbelts and one victim was a pedestrian.

Through July 31, 2012, there have been seventeen (17) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of seventeen (17) lives reported in the Post 2 District: ten (10) victims were not wearing seatbelts, four (4) victims were wearing seatbelts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, one (1) victim was wearing a helmet, and one (1) victim was a pedestrian.

Through July 31, 2011, 12 people had been killed in 12 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
