2012 Trooper Island Camp Madisonville/Mayfield Posts
Date of News Release: 07/31/2012
Madisonville, KY. – During the week of July 23 through July 27, a total of forty-seven (47) boys and girls from the KSP Madisonville and Mayfield Post Districts attended the Kentucky State Police Trooper Island Camp. Before leaving for the island, the campers were treated to a cookout at the Madisonville Post courtesy of Richard and LaNelle Gordon of Madisonville, Woodmen of the World Lodge #92, Princeton (KY) and Kroger of Madisonville.
During their week on the island, the campers participated in many activities such as swimming, canoeing, archery, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Campers also learned about good citizenship, hygiene, and leadership. The camping program is dedicated toward the development of one's self image.
Trooper Island is located on Dale Hollow Lake near the Cumberland and Clinton County line. Established in 1965, the free, summer camp is for underprivileged boys and girls ages 10 to 12 that may not have a chance to attend a summer camp. Each year approximately 700 campers from across the state attend the camp.
Trooper Island is a non-profit organization, which operates solely on private and business donations. If you would like to make a donation to Trooper Island, you may contact your local Kentucky State Police Post. Contributions are tax-deductible. Currently, the Kentucky State Police is raffling a 2012 Dodge Challenger R/T Classic (Charitable Gaming # ORG0000633) with proceeds going to Trooper Island. Tickets may be purchased from any Kentucky State Police Post.
