Fatal Collision on the Pennyrile Parkway

(Hopkins County) – Mr. Germain Rojas was operating his vehicle going north bound on the Pennyrile Parkway near the 33 mile marker Mr. Rojas' vehicle blew the right rear tire. This caused Mr. Rojas to lose control of the vehicle. His right side passenger, Salvador Alvarez who had his seat belt on at the time, took off his seat belt to help the driver get control of the vehicle. The back passenger, Mr. Santiago Ocadiz, also came to the front of the vehicle to help the driver gain control of the vehicle. The vehicle went slightly off the edge of the right side shoulder, came back onto the roadway, but overcorrected towards the left side shoulder. Mr. Rojas traveled approximately 200 feet trying to control the vehicle, but again over corrected, went off the right side shoulder and struck the guardrail. The vehicle came back onto the roadway and flipped in the median where it came to final rest facing south bound. Mr. Alvarez was pronounced deceased at the scene. Mr. Rojas and Mr. Ocadiz were transported by Hopkins County EMS to the Madisonville Regional Medical Center.
