Two Crashes Occur on I69 Blocking the Road

Dawson Springs, KY. (Hopkins County) – The Kentucky State Police investigated two, separate collisions on Interstate 69 that closed the road for several hours.
The first collision occurred on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at approximately 5:20 p.m., on Interstate 69 (formerly the Western Kentucky Parkway), approximately one mile north of Dawson Springs at the 25 mile-marker.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Gregory A. Fields, age 49 of Summitville, IN., was operating a 2006 International tractor-trailer northbound on Interstate 69. He was hauling plastic pellets. As he was traveling northbound, the driver's side tires of the vehicle dropped off the roadway and into the median. The vehicle veered into the median and onto the southbound side of the roadway. Mr. Fields attempted to regain control of the vehicle, but was not successful. The vehicle traveled back into the median where it overturned and came to rest on its driver's side blocking one northbound lane and one southbound lane.
Mr. Fields was transported via ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. He was wearing a seatbelt. There were no passengers.
The second collision occurred on Thursday, June 14, 2012 at approximately 6:09 p.m., on Interstate 69 (formerly the Western Kentucky Parkway), approximately one mile north of Dawson Springs at the 25 mile-marker.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Bryant L. Beckley, age 45 of Memphis, TN., was operating a 2011 Freightliner tractor-trailer northbound on Interstate 69. He was hauling refrigerated foods. Mr. Beckley was attempting to navigate around the earlier collision. As he was traveling northbound, the right, front tires of his cab dropped off the shoulder of the roadway causing him to lose control. The vehicle traveled off the roadway and struck a guardrail.
Mr. Beckley and his passenger, Andrea Gray (male), age 43 of Memphis, TN., were not injured. Both men were wearing seatbelts.
The road was closed/partially closed for several hours. All lanes were open at 1:06 a.m. on Friday, June 15, 2012.
KSP CVE Officer Andrew McGregor investigated the first collision. KSP CVE Officer John Hibbs investigated the second collision. Sgt. Trent Weaver, Tpr. Joseph Bartolotti, Tpr. Curtis Crick, Tpr. Darron Holliman, Tpr. Bob Winters, the Dawson Springs Police Department, the Dawson Springs Fire Department, Dawson Springs EMS, and Medical Center Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.
