Muhlenberg County Death Investigation & Arrest

Greenville, KY. (Muhlenberg County) The Kentucky State Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the death of a Greenville man.

On Monday, May 28, 2012, at approximately 6:44 p.m., the KSP Post 2 Madisonville received a call from the Greenville Police Department in reference to a male subject that had been brought to the Muhlenberg Community Hospital ER by his wife and step-son. The victim, Floyd Slaton, age 65 of Greenville, KY, was deceased upon arrival. The victim's wife, Deanna Slaton, age 64 of Greenville, KY, and her son, Joel Allen, age 39 of Greenville, KY, alleged that Mr. Slaton had fallen down a flight of stairs causing severe injuries to his head.

An autopsy was performed at the State Medical Examiner's Office in Louisville on Tuesday, May 29, 2012. The cause of death was multiple, blunt force trauma to the head. KSP detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence located at 1800 State Route 1473, Greenville, and executed it on Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at approximately 7:30 p.m. After executing the search warrant, investigators charged Mrs. Slaton and Mr. Allen.

Joel AllenMr. Allen was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Murder (class A Felony)
  2. Tampering with Physical Evidence (class D Felony)

 

Deanna SlatonMrs. Slaton was charged with the following offenses:

  1. Hindering Prosecution/Apprehension 1st Degree (class D Felony)
  2. Tampering with Physical Evidence (class D Felony)

Both are lodged in the Muhlenberg County Detention Center.

KSP Detective Billy Sumner is the lead investigator. Sgt. Greg Jones, Sgt. Jason Newby, Det. Matt Foster, Det. Lonnie Kavanaugh, Det. Dan Morck, Det. Lloyd Ray, Det. Scott Smith, Det. Matt Wise, Trooper Jacob Fortney, Trooper Jeff McWhorter, the Greenville Police Department, the Muhlenberg County Coroner's Office, the Muhlenberg County Attorney's Office, and the Muhlenberg County Commonwealth Attorney's Office assisted with the investigation.
