Stats from Post 2 for May 2012

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of May 2012, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 36 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 2,381 Citations
  • Issued 798 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 582 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 17 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 619 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 94 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 163 Stranded Motorists
  • Responded to 942 Calls for Service
  • Opened 46 Criminal Cases
  • Made 110 Criminal Arrests

**There were three fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three lives reported in the Post 2 District in May 2012. Single-fatalities occurred in Christian, Todd, and Webster Counties. One victim was wearing a seatbelt, one victim was wearing a helmet, and one victim was not wearing a helmet.

Through May 31, 2012, there have been twelve (12) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of twelve (12) lives reported in the Post 2 District: six (6) victims were not wearing seatbelts, four (4) victims were wearing seatbelts, one (1) victim was not wearing a helmet, and one (1) victim was wearing a helmet.

Through May 31, 2011, 9 people had been killed in 9 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
