Assault First Degree Investigation/Arrest

Dixon, KY. (Webster County) – The Kentucky State Police is investigating a shooting involving a wife and her estranged husband.
On Tuesday, May 29, 2012, at approximately 10:01 a.m., the KSP Post 2 Madisonville received a call from the Webster County Sheriff's Department in reference to a shooting that occurred at 65 Springfield Road.
Preliminary investigation reveals that Robert Harold Simms, age 76 of Providence, KY, arrived at the residence and attempted to locate his estranged wife, Connie Simms, age 51 of Dixon, KY. Upon locating her, Mr. Simms fired one shot at her striking her in the shoulder. Witnesses were able to get the gun away from Mr. Simms. He then left the residence in a vehicle. Mr. Simms was located and taken into custody without incident by the Webster County Sheriff's Department on KY 120 approximately one to two miles from the scene.
Mrs. Simms was transported via ambulance to the Regional Medical Center where she was treated and released.
Mr. Simms was lodged in the Webster County Jail and charged with the following offenses: Assault First Degree, Wanton Endangerment First Degree (5 counts) and Burglary First Degree.
Detective Lloyd Ray is the lead investigator. Lt. Lonnie Bell, Sgt. Greg Jones, Det. Dan Morck, Tpr. Joseph Bartolotti, Tpr. Bob Winters, the Webster County Sheriff's Department, Providence Police Department, Clay Police Department, and Webster County EMS assisted at the scene.
