Madisonville, KY. (Hopkins County) – The Kentucky State Police investigated a single-vehicle injury collision involving a tractor-trailer that occurred at the 40 mile-marker, southbound on the Pennyrile Parkway, approximately one mile south of Madisonville, on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at approximately 2:38 a.m.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Jeffrey L. Gardner, age 54 of Evansville, IN, was operating a 2005 Kenworth tractor-trailer southbound on the Pennyrile Parkway. His cargo was roofing. Mr. Gardner stated he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway. He lost control of the vehicle and it exited the right side of the road. The vehicle struck a road sign and overturned onto its passenger side. It came to rest partially blocking the southbound lanes. Both southbound lanes were closed for approximately one hour.
Mr. Gardner was transported via ambulance to the Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was wearing a seatbelt.
Trooper John McGehee conducted the investigation. Medical Center Ambulance Service and the State Highway Department assisted at the scene.
