(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of March 2012, Post 2 reports the following activity:
- Arrested 44 Impaired Drivers
- Issued a Total of 2,230 Citations
- Issued 527 Speeding Citations
- Issued 181 Seatbelt Citations
- Issued 11 Child Restraint Citations
- Issued 661 Courtesy Notices
- Investigated 60 Traffic Crashes
- Assisted 157 Stranded Motorists
- Responded to 883 Calls for Service
- Opened 50 Criminal Cases
- Made 809 Criminal Arrests
**There were three fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three lives reported in the Post 2 District in March 2012. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Caldwell, Christian, and Hopkins Counties. Two victims were wearing seatbelts and one victim was not wearing a seatbelt.
Through March 31, 2012, there have been six (6) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of six (6) lives reported in the Post 2 District. Three (3) victims were not wearing a seatbelt and three (3) victims were wearing a seatbelt.
Through March 31, 2011, 6 people had been killed in 6 crashes in the Post 2 District.
Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.
Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.
**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
