Muhlenberg County Police Involved Shooting Investigation

Drakesboro, KY. (Muhlenberg County) -- The Kentucky State Police is currently investigating a shooting that involved the Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department.

On Monday, February 27, 2012, at approximately 8:22 p.m., Muhlenberg County Central Dispatch received a call in reference to a domestic dispute at 308 Warford Street in Drakesboro. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff, Curtis McGehee, and two of his deputies, Terry Vick and Troy Gibson, responded to the scene.

Upon arriving, officers made contact with Hargis A. Gibson, age 40 of Drakesboro, KY. While speaking with Mr. Gibson, he produced a handgun and fired one round into the ceiling. Mr. Gibson then pointed the handgun at Sheriff McGehee. The officers fired their service weapons at Mr. Gibson fatally wounding him. Neither Sheriff McGehee nor the deputies were injured. Both deputies have been placed on paid, administrative leave.

The investigation is continuing by KSP Detective Lloyd Ray. The Muhlenberg County Sheriff's Department, Greenville Police Department, Central City Police Department, Muhlenberg County EMS, and the Muhlenberg County Coroner's Office assisted at the scene.
