Stats from Post 2 for December 2011

(Madisonville, Ky.) -- For the month of December 2011, Post 2 reports the following activity:

  • Arrested 20 Impaired Drivers
  • Issued a Total of 1,522 Citations
  • Issued 416 Speeding Citations
  • Issued 84 Seatbelt Citations
  • Issued 4 Child Restraint Citations
  • Issued 570 Courtesy Notices
  • Investigated 84 Traffic Crashes
  • Assisted 167 Stranded Motorists
  • Responded to 802 Calls for Service
  • Opened 37 Criminal Cases
  • Made 479 Criminal Arrests

**There were three (3) fatal crashes that resulted in the loss of three (3) lives reported in the Post 2 District in December 2011. Single-fatality crashes occurred in Caldwell, Christian, and Crittenden Counties. Two (2) victims were wearing a seatbelt and one (1) victim was not wearing a seatbelt.

Through December 31, 2011, 36 people have been killed in 34 crashes in the Post 2 District. Fourteen (14) victims were wearing a seatbelt, ten (10) victims were not wearing a seatbelt, five (5) victims were not wearing a helmet, three (3) victims were pedestrians, one (1) victim was operating a farm tractor, one (1) victim was in an animal-drawn vehicle, one (1) victim was operating a mowing tractor, and the seatbelt status of one (1) victim is unknown.

Through December 31, 2010, 44 people had been killed in 38 crashes in the Post 2 District.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel, and license number if possible.

Throughout the month, troopers from the Madisonville Kentucky State Police Post will conduct traffic safety checkpoints in the Post 2 District. At these checkpoints, troopers will be targeting impaired drivers, checking for properly restrained adults and children and observing for any other violations. Post 2 serves the following counties: Caldwell, Christian, Crittenden, Hopkins, Muhlenberg, Todd, and Webster.

**These statistics are still preliminary as KSP waits for all local law enforcement agencies throughout the state to report any crashes and fatalities that may have occurred in their areas.
