Two Arrested After a Pursuit in Calloway County

(Hickory, Ky.) -- Trooper Dick attempted to stop James M. Swindle on Lax Road in New Concord when the 2001 Jeep, driven by Mr. Swindle (34) of New Concord, failed to yield, sped up, and turned onto several different streets in an attempted to elude. Mr. Swindle then stopped his vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area. Trooper Dick gave chase, and after a brief struggle, Trooper Dick deployed his TASER. Mr. Swindle became compliant, and was arrested without further incident. When Trooper Dick returned to his police cruiser, he discovered the passenger, Shirley Hughes (53) of Clarksville, TN, had left the scene in the vehicle. Moments later, she was located by Calloway County Sheriff's Deputies in the area, and in the same vehicle. She was arrested without further incident. Mr. Swindle was charged with Reckless Driving, Fleeing and Evading in motor vehicle, Fleeing and Evading on Foot, Driving under the Influence 4th Aggravated, Operating on Suspended License, Resisting Arrest. Mrs. Hughes was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident and Fleeing and Evading in Motor Vehicle.

Both James Swindle and Shirley Hughes were lodged into the Calloway County Jail.
