SARATOGA, KY: -- On August 22, 2012 at approximately 4PM, the Kentucky State Police along with members of the Caldwell County Sheriffs Office and the Lyon County Sheriff, Kent Murphy arrested Asa H. Stephens (29) on numerous felony warrants. Deputy Chris Noel of the Caldwell County Sheriffs Office received an anonymous tip that Mr. Stephens was staying at a residence on Eddy Creek Road in Lyon County. As Mr. Stephens reportedly had a history of weapons violations and fleeing and evading, an arrest team consisting of five officers surrounded the residence to effect the arrest. The charges stem from an ongoing investigation by Deputy Noel. The burned vehicle was later recovered on Jake Hollow Road, in Princeton. Both Young and Hammonds were arrested shortly after the crime spree.
Mr. Stephens, a Caldwell County resident, was charged with one count each theft by unlawful taking-automobile, 1st degree burglary, fleeing and evading 2nd, as well as two counts each 1st degree arson, tampering with physical evidence, and theft by unlawful taking over $10,000. Several lesser traffic warrants were also served on Mr. Stephens.
Kentucky State Police Master Trooper C.G. Anderson served the warrants on Mr. Stephens. He was then remanded into the custody of the Caldwell County Sheriffs Office and lodged in the Caldwell County Jail.
